On June 25

The Korean War began on 25 June 1950 when North Korean forces invaded South Korea across the 38th parallel.

On 28 June 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife Sophie were shot dead in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb member of the Young Bosnia movement.

Signed in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles on 28 June 1919 — five years to the day after the Sarajevo assassination — the Treaty of Versailles formally ended the state of war between Germany and most of the Allied powers.

On 22 June 1941 Germany and its Axis allies launched Operation Barbarossa, invading the Soviet Union along a front of roughly 2,900 km with more than three million troops.

On 23 June 1757 a British East India Company force of about 3,000 under Robert Clive defeated the roughly 50,000-strong army of Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, on the field of Plassey near Murshidabad.

On 24 June 1948 the Soviet Union blockaded all rail, road and water routes into the Western-controlled sectors of Berlin, which lay deep inside the Soviet occupation zone of Germany.

On 26 June 2015 the United States Supreme Court ruled 5–4 in Obergefell v. Hodges that the Fourteenth Amendment requires every state to license marriages between same-sex couples and to recognise such marriages performed elsewhere.

On 23 June 2016 the United Kingdom held a referendum on its membership of the European Union, and voters chose to leave by 51.9% to 48.1%, with about 17.4 million votes for Leave against 16.1 million for Remain on a turnout of 72.2%.
